City Declares ‘Vancouver Canadians Day’

PRESS RELEASE – The City of Vancouver and Mayor Gregor Robertson welcomed Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club owners Jake Kerr and Jeff Mooney along with team President Andy Dunn and General Manager Jason Takefman to City Hall on Wednesday to proclaim November 7th, 2012 as ‘Vancouver Canadians Day’.

The Canadians, fresh off a second straight Northwest League Championship, attended the ceremony that commemorated not only the team’s on-field successes, but also the efforts that have been put into our local community.

“The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club is a vital part of the history and heritage of our city,” stated Mayor Robertson from his office within City Hall.

“Through its Foundation, the Canadians have enabled hundreds of young children to experience the character that being a part of a baseball team provides,” added Robertson.

The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Foundation was able to welcome more than 300 local children through The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Coast BC out to historic Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium to play organized baseball, which for many of these children was their first venture into sport.

In addition to playing summer baseball out at ‘The Nat’, all children were transported to and from, provided uniforms and equipment as well as a nightly meal all through the Canadians Foundation and with the support of its many donors and partners.

The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club wishes to thank the City of Vancouver, Vancouver Park Board and all of its fans for helping make today’s announcement possible through their generous support.
