After Vote, Hillcats Staying Put

PRESS RELEASE – The Lynchburg Hillcats announced today that the pending sale of the Hillcats’ (Carolina League) franchise to the Atlanta Braves is now void. The sale was contingent on many different events occurring, including the city of Wilmington, NC voting to publicly fund the construction of a brand new stadium. That referendum was voted down 70% NO to 30% YES yesterday.

The Braves and Hillcats are still under contract through the 2014 season, and without this pending sale, the relationship is expected to continue for years after that.

Mike Plant, Braves Executive Vice President of Business Operations, said, “[The Braves] are very happy to continue our relationship with Lynchburg. The facility is great, and the front office staff and ownership group has been outstanding to work with. [The Braves] expect to remain in Lynchburg for many years.”

The Hillcats are very thankful for all the community support this past season and are looking forward to another championship caliber season of Carolina League baseball in 2013 and beyond.
