AAGPBL Alums to Play Charity Game Today in Syracuse

A reunion of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) will continue Saturday, when about 50 alums will play in a charity softball game at Alliance Bank Stadium in Syracuse (NY), home of the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs (International League).  As you recall, the league was brought to life in the 1992 movie A League of Their Own, starring actors Tom Hanks and Geena DavisRead more here.

    About 6 played with us. Thoses that played were late 70’s or early 80’s. We had a great time!

    Do keep in mind that the league actually ran until 1954. Some of the girls were only 15 or 16 at that time, so although they are not as quick as they once were, they’re not quite as old as you might be calculating — and many are still very active — as you can see from the video link Alan posted. Hooray for the Ladies of the AAGPBL!

    How could any of these alums even play? The league was from World War II…that would mean the average person is between 70-100 years of age…
