Roger Clemens got the nod in game two for his first start in five years in professional baseball in a Skeeters uniform. Clemens struck out the first batter he faced in four pitches exploding the crowd into a frenzy. Two batters later, Prentice Redman went down looking for Clemens second punch-out of the game.
The Skeeters offense gave the righty the lead in the bottom of the second inning when Aaron Bates hit a line-drive single into right-center field. Dionys Cesar scored from second after his leadoff double put him in scoring position to put the home team ahead, 1-0.
Clemens finished his evening with three and a third innings pitched with two strikeouts while only giving up one hit through the eleven batters he faced. Michael Nix (4-9) picked up the win after three and a third innings of scoreless baseball in relief before Roberto Giron and Gary Majewski sealed the game with a scoreless inning each in the eighth and ninth. Majewski left two runners stranded in the ninth on his way to his 20th save of the season and a Skeeters’ victory to even the series.
