More than 2,700 names were submitted by fans to help rename the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees (International League).  Based on relevance to the area, family-friendliness and fun, the ownership has narrowed the list to six, including Blast, Black Diamond Bears, Fireflies, RailRiders, Porcupines, and Trolley Frogs.  To read the stories behind the choices and vote, click here.

  1. Baseball Fan

The Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers worked well after the dropped the word trolley from the name, however, how would it it sound if the Frogs and Pigs from Lehigh Valley played one another in a series next season?

  2. Pretty poor choices, but I guess they could have been worse. I was holding out hope that they could give us one traditional name to choose from, but we shouldn’t be surprised. These marketing folks just copy everyone else and are completely out of touch with what real fans want. If it has to be one of these, RailRiders is the best. But I suspect they’ll go with Trolley Frogs, no matter how the vote turns out.

I would have liked to have seen the name Barons restored in the area, but Birmingham may object to the name, or Coal Sox, Breakers, Railers, etc. What about yourself?
