PRESS RELEASE – Some heroes might be caped crusaders, while other heroes keep us safe in our local communities every day, but the State College Spikes will honor them all on Heroes Night this Thursday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Spikes will take on the Williamsport Crosscutters (Philadelphia Phillies) at 7:05 p.m., and the first 1,000 fans through the gates will get a “Dark Spike” Mini-Bobblehead Doll, presented by P.J. Harrigan’s.
The mini-bobblehead portrays the Spikes’ #1 mascot, Ike the Spike, in a cape and cowl much like the hero of the latest summer movie blockbuster that opens at midnight on Thursday. Gates open at 5:45 for season ticket holders and 6 p.m. for the general public.
In addition to highlighting the superheroes portrayed in comic books and film, the Spikes will also be paying tribute to the real-life heroes in our community. A variety of pre-game ceremonies and in-game presentations will highlight the efforts of our local police, fire and rescue departments. The activities include a K-9 unit demonstration and an emergency and police vehicle parade.
Plus, it’s Kids Eat N’ Play Free Thursday at the ballpark, presented by Dairy Queen Grill & Chill. All kids 12 and under will receive a voucher good for a free hot dog, chips and soda at either Flashpoint Grille location behind home plate. Kids will also receive a one-time free-play pass to Ike’s Kids Zone in left field.
Before the game, fans can also bring their old computer and electronic equipment out to the Porter North parking lot at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for a Computer Recycling Event presented by Skills of Central PA from 4-7 p.m.
Thursday’s game will kick off a stretch of four home games in six nights for the Spikes. The schedule includes another matchup with the Crosscutters on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and games against the Batavia Muckdogs (St. Louis Cardinals) on Monday at 7:05 p.m. and Tuesday at noon.
Tickets for Thursday’s game, as well as each game on the Spikes’ 2012 home slate, can be purchased by visiting the Medlar Field at Lubrano Park Box Office, by calling toll-free (877) 99-SPIKES, or by clicking here to buy and print tickets from your home computer.
