The Minnesota Twins are looking for major and expensive improvements to Hammond Stadium, the team’s spring training facility in Fort Myers (FL). The Twins want control of the ballpark’s naming rights, just like the Red Sox have at the new JetBlue Park down the road. The Twins also want new dorms for their Gulf Coast League players. Lee County objects, particularly as it relates to the proposed new sleeping quarters, because it would take money away from the hotel/motel industry, which helps pay for projects like this via the occupancy tax.
