PRESS RELEASE – The Newport Gulls Souvenir Shop, operated by intern Grace Eng and located beneath the stands on the first base line at Cardines Field, is a place where fans can go and choose from a wide variety of Gulls gear to support their favorite Newport baseball team.
“I love being a part of the Newport Gulls family,” said Eng. “My favorite part of my job is seeing our fans supporting our boys in Gulls blue and orange.”
Eng has been a part of the Gulls family since her middle school days, and she initially became involved with the Souvenir Shop four years ago when it was under the management of long-time director Janice Sullivan. Eng’s parents, Sue and Harry, are a long-time Gulls host family, and Harry has served as treasurer of the NECBL.
“The Souvenir Shop is an aspect of why the Newport Gulls are so successful,” said Eng. “Being familiar with it made this internship easy to adjust to.”
As director of the shop, her responsibilities include keeping inventory updated, adjusting prices of products when necessary, and, overall, promoting the Gulls organization. Currently, she has three volunteers, who she hired and trained herself, helping out in the shop on game nights.
The Souvenir Shop is the go-to place when it comes to Gulls gear – fans can choose form a wide range of items and apparel, from basic T-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats to miscellaneous trinkets such as logo balls, mini-wood bats, jewelry and sunglasses. The Gulls most popular products are T-shirts, logo balls, and of course, this year’s brand-new fitted team hats.
The latest products available in the souvenir shop this season, the new and improved Newport Gulls team hats feature the upper half of “The Fighting Gull” from the formal team logo, which previously was on the hats players wear in games since 2003.
There are several styles and colors of hats and visors to choose from, from adjustable to Flex Fit hats, all equipped with a version of the Newport Gulls logo on the front. Additionally, the Gulls have a wide variety of other items, from seat backs and backpacks to team shorts, pullovers and a dozen different varieties of polo shirts.
The Newport Gulls Souvenir Shop opens at 5:30 p.m. on game nights and remains open throughout the game, located on West Marlborough St. on the first base line. A game ticket is not required to visit the shop. Credit cards are accepted, and Gulls fans waiting in line to make purchases can watch live television coverage of the games on a TV in the shop window provided by the Newport Gulls Broadcast Network.
