Negro Leagues Baseball Museum Exhibit to be Showcased at Werner Park

PRESS RELEASE – The Omaha Storm Chasers and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum proudly announce that Werner Park will house the NLBM’s Times, Teams & Talent traveling exhibit on the main concourse for eight games from May 17 through May 24.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for fans of all ages to come out to the ballpark and learn about these men who worked to achieve their dreams, even in the face of prejudice,” said President and General Manager of the Storm Chasers, Martie Cordaro. “The legacy of the Negro Leagues needs to be passed down from generation to generation and this is one way to ensure that it does.”

The Times, Teams & Talent exhibit is 24 feet long by eight feet tall by four feet wide and will be located on the concourse behind section 114. In addition to the exhibit at Werner Park, the Great Plains Black History museum has acquired and will display two traveling exhibits at Conestoga Elementary School on the corner of 21st and Burdett street entitled Discovered Greatness and Right on Time. Discovered Greatness features 90 framed photos of the players and personalities that were instrumental to the Negro Leagues while Right on Time chronicles the life of baseball legend, Buck O’Neil. The price of admission for Discovered Greatness and Right on Time is $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for children ages 12 and under.

35 Youth Ambassadors that range from 12-18 years old were hired by the Great Plains Black History Museum to help with the exhibits and work with the public to answer any questions visitors to the exhibits may have in regards to the Negro Leagues. The Omaha Storm Chasers will supply up to two Youth Ambassadors with up to four tickets for their families to attend the games they work on May 17-24. The Youth Ambassadors will also be recognized by the Storm Chasers for their outstanding efforts in a pre-game ceremony at a game during the 2012 season.

Omaha Storm Chasers’ season ticket holders and Premier Partners are invited to get a sneak-peek before anyone else on Thursday, May 17 at 4:30 p.m. Snacks and Pepsi products will be provided at this special sneak-peek event.
