Vispoli Named New Voice of RoughRiders

PRESS RELEASE – The Frisco RoughRiders are proud to announce that Alex Vispoli has joined the team as its new Manager of Broadcasting and Media Development. In this role, Vispoli will broadcast all 140 RoughRiders games on 1630-AM KKGM and select games on TXA 21 and will serve as the organization’s primary liaison with the media. He succeeds Aaron Goldsmith, who was hired as the new Pawtucket Red Sox radio broadcaster in December.

Vispoli spent the last two seasons as the Director of Media Relations and Broadcaster for the Winston-Salem (N.C.) Dash, the Advanced-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. While with the Dash, he coordinated the media coverage of the opening of BB&T Ballpark, Winston-Salem’s newly constructed $48 million baseball facility. He also has experience broadcasting affiliated minor league baseball in Dayton (Ohio), Lynchburg (Va.), and Salem (Va.).

“I am excited for the opportunity to join such a well-respected and admired organization,” Vispoli said. “The RoughRiders do a terrific job and I am hoping to add onto what is already a great experience. Additionally, I am looking forward to connecting with ‘Riders and Rangers fans throughout North Texas.”

A native of Andover, Mass., Vispoli graduated from Syracuse University and Phillips Academy Andover. He previously spent four years as a radio studio host and producer at IMG College (formerly ISP, Inc.), anchoring the Georgia Tech radio broadcasts of football and basketball in each of the last two seasons.

“We are thrilled to bring Alex aboard as the new ‘Voice of the RoughRiders,'” said Scott Sonju, President/General Manager of the RoughRiders. “His experiences in Winston-Salem and Dayton, a fellow Mandalay-owned team, made him a perfect fit for us. More than two-hundred individuals expressed interest in joining the ‘Riders and Alex stood out from that group. I am confident that he will do a terrific job for us here in Frisco.”

Vispoli will be joined on the radio broadcast of home games by Geoff Arnold, a graduate of Dickinson College where he broadcast baseball on the radio. Arnold spent the 2011 season as an umpire in the Gulf Coast League and in the off-season was the studio host and producer for the radio networks of Wake Forest University and the University of South Florida at IMG College. He has also worked as a radio producer and production assistant in Philadelphia and Harrisburg (Pa.).

The 2012 Frisco RoughRiders regular season opens on April 5 at the Springfield Cardinals. The ‘Riders begin their home schedule at Dr Pepper Ballpark on Thursday, April 12 against Springfield. For ticket information, please call (972) 731-9200 or visit www.ridersbaseball.com.
