PRESS RELEASE – The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, introduced their complete broadcast team and line-up of affiliates for the 2012 season. New Hampshire native Tom Gauthier joins a veteran group with long-time play-by-play voice Bob Lipman, Dick Lutsk, and Charlie Sherman. The quartet will broadcast all 142 Fisher Cats games on a six-station network spearheaded by Clear Channel Radio Manchester’s WGIR AM 610 with affiliates on Great Eastern Radio and Absolute Broadcasting.
“We are excited to begin another season with WGIR and our fantastic partners across our entire radio network,” said Fisher Cats President Rick Brenner. “Our flagship station and our affiliates will reach fans all across the state, and our radio team is sure to provide an entertaining and informative broadcast every night this season.”
Gauthier is the newest addition to the broadcast team after joining the club as Director of Broadcast/Media Relations in November. He spent the previous three seasons calling games for the Bowling Green Hot Rods, Class A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays and the Fisher Cats’ sister team under ownership group, DSF Sports. The Epping native and Emerson College graduate returns to the Eastern League after beginning his baseball career full time in 2008 as the Broadcast Assistant with the Fisher Cats’ rival, the Portland Sea Dogs.
Lipman is back for his ninth consecutive season calling Fisher Cats baseball, a task he has performed since the team’s inaugural season of 2004. A two-time New Hampshire Sportscaster of the Year, Lipman is currently the Voice of UNH Football and can be heard on the airwaves of WTPL ‘The Pulse’ as co-host on The Bob Lobel Show. The Vanderbilt alum also serves as operations manager for Great Eastern Radio. He spent several seasons broadcasting games for Dartmouth College while also providing play-by-play of high school athletics across the state.
Lutsk is back for his third season in the Fisher Cats radio booth, bringing with him over 40 years of local and regional broadcasting experience. Currently a marketing specialist at the Manchester Radio Group, Lutsk served as the pre- and post-game host of Boston Red Sox baseball on WRKO/WEEI from 1990-95. He has also broadcast UNH and Boston College football and basketball, the Beanpot Hockey tournament, and Manchester Wolves arena football, among others. He is currently the Voice of Darmouth College Football and part of the basketball broadcast team for The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass.
Sherman rounds out the radio team, returning to the booth for Friday night games throughout the season. After beginning a career in banking, Sherman became one of New Hampshire’s best-known media personalities, spending more than two decades as a sportscaster on WMUR-TV and a morning talk show host at WGIR. Sherman used his celebrity and platform to build a reputation in the community for his philanthropic work, ultimately leading to his current position as the executive director of New Horizons for New Hampshire, a food bank, soup kitchen, and homeless shelter in Manchester.
