Pfander Named GM of Stone Crabs

PRESS RELEASE – The Charlotte Stone Crabs, ‘Class-A advanced’ affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, today announced Jim Pfander as General Manager of the Ripken Baseball franchise. Pfander brings over 12 years of professional baseball experience to the organization’s front office, including his previous role as Executive Vice President/ Chief Operating Officer of the Akron Aeros.

The Ohio-native began his career as a broadcasting and special events intern for the Cleveland Indians, followed by his first minor league baseball stint as Director of Sponsorship and Promotions for the Spokane Indians. Pfander also held positions as Director of Promotions and Merchandise (Brockton Rox) and Assistant GM (Charleston RiverDogs).

“I am excited to get started in Port Charlotte.  The Stone Crabs and the Rays have a great reputation in the community and I look forward to continuing to provide an atmosphere filled with fun and affordable family entertainment in Southwest Florida,” said Pfander.  “I also look forward to joining Ripken Baseball, as they have a solid brand throughout the world of baseball, both on the amateur and professional sides. I am thrilled to be aligned with such a first class organization.”

Pfander replaces former Stone Crabs General Manager Joe Hart. He is a graduate of Ohio University with a degree in Journalism and will reside in Punta Gorda, FL with his wife, Page, and 4 year-old daughter, Olivia.

About the Charlotte Stone Crabs:

The Charlotte Stone Crabs are the ‘Class A advanced’ affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays in the Florida State League and play out of Port Charlotte, FL. Since 2009, Charlotte Sports Park has served as the Spring Training home for the Tampa Bay Rays. The Charlotte Stone Crabs are one of three professional teams owned by Ripken Baseball, a sales and marketing company based in Baltimore, Md. that represents the business interests of Cal Ripken, Jr. and Bill Ripken.  Established in 2001, the mission of Ripken Baseball is to grow the game of baseball at the grassroots level worldwide. Other teams apart of the Ripken Baseball ownership group include the Aberdeen IronBirds and the Augusta GreenJackets.
