Historic WPA Ballpark in Rural Minnesota to be Demolished

In sad news, the wooden grandstand at historic Al Krueger Field, a WPA ballpark built in rural Perham (MN) in the 1930s, is scheduled to be demolished as early as the end of February.  The supports for the bleachers and the roof have been declared unsafe.  Krueger Field is the home of the Perham Pirates town team.

The facility hosted the Minnesota State Men’s Baseball Tournament in 1995 and the indy pro Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (Northern League) for an exhibition game in 1996.  Read more and view photos here.  We may try to take a quick trip up to Perham to snap a few shots of the stadium before it’s raized.  Thanks to John Cerone for the link.
