Godett Slides Behind Mic as New Broadcaster

PRESS RELEASE – The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the American League champion Texas Rangers, have announced the hiring of Joel Godett as the team’s Director of Media Relations and radio broadcaster for the 2012 season.

Godett joins the Pelicans after two seasons as Coordinator of Communications with the Florida State League’s Bradenton Marauders (A-Advanced, Pirates). The first broadcaster in Bradenton’s history, Godett handled all 140 games on the radio and media relations duties while also hosting the club’s monthly television program. He worked on the radio teams for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons and A-Advanced Salem Avalanche prior to his tenure in Bradenton. Away from pro baseball Godett spent a year at the University of South Florida broadcasting women’s basketball and baseball and spent this past offseason calling men’s and women’s basketball at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. He’s currently the morning sports anchor on 106.9 WSYR in Syracuse, NY.

A New Jersey native, Godett graduated from Syracuse University in 2009 as a nationally recognized collegiate broadcaster. The 24-year-old resides in Bucks County, Pennsylvania during the offseason. Godett’s hiring completes the Pelicans front office for the 2012 season.

“I’m incredibly excited to join the Pelicans team this season,” Godett said. “The Pelicans name and brand are both very well known and respected across the minor leagues, so it’s thrilling to become a part of that success.”

The team has already welcomed six other new staffers this winter, including Director of Sports Turf, Corey Russell; Ticket Account Managers Glenn Goodwin, Justin Shively, Emily Luchansky and Katelyn Guild and Community Relations Manager Tyler Alewine.

Season tickets, Flex Books and Mini-Plans for the 2012 Pelicans season are on sale now at the team’s BB&T Coastal Field offices or by calling (843) 918-6000. The Pelicans open the 2012 season at home against the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Friday, April 6th, at 7:05 p.m.
