Miners Hire New Radio Voice

PRESS RELEASE – The Southern Illinois Miners have announced the hiring of their new radio voice, Mike Ventola. Mike comes to the Miners after spending the past season with the Triple A Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, a Philadelphia Phillies affiliate.

“We interviewed some great candidates during the process but Mike’s experience really stood out for us,” said Miners Executive Vice President Erik Haag. “Mike received great experience working with top Minor League teams in Reading, PA and Lehigh Valley, PA. We also took into consideration Mike’s work experience in other areas of the media and that fit really well into what we want to do to grow our multi-media presence.”

Mike has spent the past three summers working in Minor League Baseball. Starting in 2009, he worked for the Augusta Green Jackets and then moved on to the Reading Phillies and Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. In addition to baseball, Mike calls women’s basketball for Wagner College. He also worked for ESPN radio in Lehigh Valley, PA and with The Danny Bonaduce Show on 94 WYSP in Philadelphia.

”I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to be the voice of the Miners this upcoming season. I look to bring a lot of enthusiasm and knowledge of the game to the fans,” said Ventola.

Fans can listen to all 96 Miners games on the Miners Radio Network, including the flagship station, US 97 in Marion. The four other Withers Broadcasting stations comprising the network are KJXX 1170 AM in Cape Girardeau, WRXX 95.3 FM in Centralia, WEBQ 1240 AM in Harrisburg and WRJJ 104.3 FM in Paducah.
