Brice Heads to Gwinnett, Abzug Promoted to GM

PRESS RELEASE – The Burlington Royals are proud to announce the hiring of Ben Abzug as the team’s new general manager. He has been promoted after having spent the previous two seasons on the club’s staff in the capacity of director of operations (2010) and assistant general manager (2011). Abzug, 24, came to Burlington after spending his first two summers in baseball as an intern for the minor league baseball team in his hometown, the Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Kernels of the Midwest League.

Abzug replaces Steve Brice, 29, who has taken a position with the Gwinnett Braves, the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, in the suburban Atlanta city of Lawrenceville. Brice had served as the Royals’ general manager for five seasons, having been in that position every year since the Kansas City Royals first housed a team in Burlington.

With the promotion, Abzug now leads the pursuits and planning of all sales, marketing and game day operations of the Appalachian League Royals, who are locally operated by Baseball Concessions, Inc., an independent group in Durham headed by president Miles Wolff.
