PRESS RELEASE – The Tucson Padres are now the owners and operators of the Casino Del Sol All-Star Game, a college football showcase to be held at Kino Stadium on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. The Tucson Padres recently purchased the rights to the game from AZ Sports Group LLC. The Padres staff has been active in the ticket and game day preparations for months.
The All-Star Game moved to Tucson this year. In 2011 it was played at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, AZ. This will be the first of four college all-star games. The others are the Senior Bowl in Mobile (1/28/12), the East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg (1/21/12), and the NFLPA College Football All-Star Game in Los Angeles (1/21/12).
The game will be broadcast live on FOX Sports Arizona (two-and-a-half million households in Arizona and New Mexico). FOX Sports Arizona is confident that additional regions will be secured in the near future.
“It’s terrific that Mike Feder and his team have stepped in to ensure the community will be able to benefit from this game,” said Tucson Council Member Paul Cunningham.
“This game has a tremendous future in Tucson. It’s something we wanted to have an active role in for the benefit of the Tucson community. It will create great awareness for Tucson and will fill a lot of hotel rooms. The economic benefit of this game will be substantial with the visit of over 100 college senior football players and staff and their families, over 50 NFL scouts, and media” said Tucson Padres Vice President and General Manager Mike Feder.
The Casino Del Sol All-Star Game will feature more than 90 of the nation’s best college football players. Former Ole Miss Head Coach Houston Nutt and former Fresno State Head Coach Pat Hill will lead the respective teams. The rosters will feature players from nationally known schools like Arizona, Arizona State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Syracuse. Other coaches from the Tucson area will be assisting on the sidelines.
As the college bowl season continues, additional players will commit to play in the Casino Del Sol All-Star Game.
