PRESS RELEASE – The Atlantic League has awarded the 2012 Atlantic League All Star Game to the Camden Riversharks. The game will occur on July 11, 2012 at 7:05 at Campbell’s Field. Preceding the All Star Game, and in conjunction with Ron Jaworski‘s, “Jaws Youth Playbook”, Campbell’s Field will host a celebrity softball game.
“We look forward to the Atlantic League teams being our guest at Campbell’s Field as we showcase some of the best talent that professional baseball has to offer,” said Riversharks General Manager Adam Lorber.
The Atlantic League All Star Game was last held at Campbell’s Field in 2004 in front of 7237. In 2011, the Atlantic League All Star Game was played in York, PA at the Sovereign Bank Stadium, home of the York Revolution.
Representatives from both the Freedom and Liberty Divisions will square off at 7:05PM on July 11, 2012. Each team is comprised of 25 players who are chosen through a simple voting process by managers, pitching staff and media personnel from all eight teams of the Atlantic League. Former all star team members that were assigned to Major League Baseball organizational rosters include Stephen Drew (Arizona Diamondbacks), Rene Rivera (Minnesota Twins), Alberto Castillo (Baltimore Orioles), Chris Widger (Chicago White Sox) to name a few.
“I am extremely delighted that the Camden Riversharks and the City of Camden will get to host the 2012 Atlantic League All Star Game,” Camden Mayor Dana L. Redd said. “With a wonderful waterfront location that overlooks the Philadelphia skyline, a state of the art stadium that offers a great seat to watch the game no matter where you sit, and the United Way of Camden County Fit & Fun Zone that allows our young spectators to enjoy some fun activities in between innings, it is no surprise that the Atlantic League chose Campbell’s Field for next year’s All Star Game. I truly look forward to welcoming baseball fans from across the country for a fun filled night at Campbell’s Field.”
“The Camden Waterfront is turning into a visitors’ destination as demonstrated by the influx of recent events. With 7,000 out of town guests expected to visit the area for the Atlantic League All Star Game, this is a great opportunity to showcase how much progress has been made along the Camden Waterfront and the amenities we enjoy,” said Lorber.
The Camden Riversharks are entering their 12th season in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Since 2001, the Riversharks have hosted all of their home games at Campbell’s Field, located along the Camden Waterfront.
