PRESS RELEASE – The Colorado Springs Sky Sox are proud to announce today that the franchise has been named the recipient of the prestigious Bob Freitas Award for the Triple-A classification by Baseball America, the baseball industry’s premier publication. This national award is one of the most significant in Minor League Baseball and recognizes long-term success and excellence in minor league operations as well as a franchise’s commitment to their community.
“We are honored to be named the recipient of the 2011 Bob Freitas Award”, said Sky Sox President and General Manager Tony Ensor. “We see this not only as recognition for the hard work and dedication of our staff and players, but as an award for the entire community of Colorado Springs and the tremendous support they have given us over the years. We’d like to thank our fans, sponsors and the Colorado Rockies for helping make Security Service Field such a fun place for families to enjoy the game of baseball.”
Since 1989, Baseball America has recognized minor league franchises with the Bob Freitas Awards at the annual Baseball Winter Meetings. The awards are named after Bob Freitas, the storied, long-time minor league baseball operator, promoter and ambassador, who passed away in 1989. The criteria for evaluation include the following:
Community involvement
Long-term business success
Consistent operational excellence
“The Colorado Springs Sky Sox are a great example of the long-term excellence that Bob Freitas cultivated. The Sky Sox continue to thrive with growing attendance and expanded community outreach even in the face of tremendous weather obstacles and the challenging Pacific Coast League schedule logistics. We are pleased to recognize the Colorado Springs Sky Sox as the 2011 Bob Freitas Award winner for the Triple-A level classification in Minor League Baseball,” said Lee Folger, President/Publisher of Baseball America.
The Bob Freitas Awards winners are announced in the Baseball America end of year special Awards issue, cover date December 12th.
