PRESS RELEASE – Biscuits General Manager Marla Terranova Vickers has been named the 2011 Rawlings Woman Executive of the Year, and will be honored formally at this year’s Baseball Winter Meetings in Dallas, Texas.
2011 marked her 11th season in minor league baseball and the first for Vickers as GM, making her only the fifth woman GM in all of minor league baseball. Over the course of her ten years with (Biscuits ownership) Professional Sports Marketing, she has held numerous positions including Assistant General Manager, Director of Sales, and Director of Sponsorship and Marketing. She’s widely considered the first Biscuits employee, having arrived in Montgomery more than a year before the team’s inaugural season in 2003.
Terranova Vickers oversees many important areas for the Biscuits including Marketing, Sponsorship, and Customer Service. “It is a privilege to even be considered for the Rawlings Award and I am honored to be this year’s recipient” she said. “I am very fortunate to have great female mentors and the opportunity to work with many talented and dedicated women on our staff, in the Southern League and around baseball. I greatly appreciate the support and encouragement of my colleagues and family and hope to continue to make them proud” she added.
Biscuits co-owner Sherrie Myers had this to say, “As one of a few female minor league baseball team owners, I am especially proud of the opportunities this industry now provides women. Marla Terranova Vickers has worked with us in about every team capacity there is during the past 10 years. It is rare to see someone of her talent, intellect and diverse range of abilities. We know she deserves this special recognition and appreciate Rawling’s efforts to focus on women leaders.”
A native of Eaton Rapids, MI, and a graduate of Central Michigan University, Terranova Vickers resides in Montgomery with her husband, John “Tripp” Vickers, who holds the distinction of having submitted “Biscuits” in the name-the-team contest. They are expecting their first child this March.
