PRESS RELEASE – The Portland Sea Dogs have released their preliminary 2012 promotional schedule. The 2012 Sea Dogs promotional schedule will be the largest in the franchise’s history. Among the promotional activities planned for 2012 are a series of giveaways, celebrity appearances, theme nights, community events, season long promotions, and our signature Hadlock Happening events. Tickets for the 2012 season will go on sale on Saturday, November 5th at 9:00 AM.

“We want to make every game a fun, exciting, and unique event for all of our fans,” stated Liz Riley, Director of Sales & Marketing/ Promotions for the Portland Sea Dogs. “The 2012 promotional schedule will be the most exciting one yet continuing to make Hadlock Field the ideal place for affordable family entertainment.”
The promotional schedule will be anchored by our signature Hadlock Happening events which include five fireworks shows (May 18, June 21, July 3, July 25, and August 16), the world Famous ZOOperstars (July 12) and the fan favorite Field of Dreams game (September 2).
The Sea Dogs will also have numerous giveaways throughout the 2012 season including four bobblehead doll giveaways. The 2012 bobblehead doll lineup included Josh Beckett (May 8), Jacoby Ellsbury (June 19), Dustin Pedroia (July 2), and Slugger (August 23). The giveaways will kick-off with a fleece blanket on Opening Day April 12th. Perhaps the most unique giveaway is on April 17th, the day taxes are due, one lucky fan will win a headstone, as the only two things in life that are guaranteed are death and taxes. More traditional giveaways that are set include Sea Dog Schedule Magnets (April 14), Red Sox Schedule Magnets (April 30), Team Photo (June 27), Webkinz (July 23), and Kids Jersey (August 4).
Among the celebrities lined-up to visit Hadlock Field in 2012 are Mr. Belding, Sergeant Slaughter, and a New England Patriots Player. Mr. Belding from the hit television show Saved by the Bell, is scheduled to be at Hadlock Field on Friday, April 27th for Teacher Appreciation Day. Famed WWE wrestler Sergeant Slaughter is slated to be at the ballpark on Tuesday, July 24. A date and personality will be announced at a later time regarding an appearance by a New England Patriots player.
The Sea Dogs have created numerous theme nights throughout the 2012 season to entertain fans. Among the highlights are an Elvis Night set for August 17th marking the 35th anniversary of when Elvis was scheduled to perform at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland but died the day before. “Dana Z as Elvis” with his band “The Memphis Miracles” will perform at Hadlock. One lucky fan will even win a trip to Graceland! Other new theme nights for 2012 include College Night (April 13), Prom Night (June 8), and Renew Your Wedding Vows (June 9). Popular returning theme nights include Halloween Night on Friday the 13th (July), Christmas in July (July 16), Jimmy Buffett Night (June 20), Bark in the Park (June 5 and July 17), L.L. Bean Day on July 15 and August 19, where you can wear your Bean Boots to earn a Sea Dogs biscuit, and Military Appreciation Day on Memorial Day (May 28). The Sea Dogs will host a Heritage Week which will include Italian Night (July 31), Franco-American Night (August 1), Irish Night (August 3), and Greek Night (August 5).
Community is important to the Sea Dogs, therefore the following community based promotions are in place for 2012. The Sea Dogs will honor Hometown Heroes on April 14th, teachers on April 27, and most improved students on April 28, April 29, May 8, May 19, May 26, May 27, and May 28. Additionally, the Sea Dogs will honor all the students who have completed Slugger’s Reading Challenge on April 17, May 2, and May 3. Among the highlights of the season, the Sea Dogs will open the ballpark early on May 28 and August 5 to allow fans to play catch on the field prior to the game. The Sea Dogs will partner with Goodwill for Clothing Drive on June 28th. The Sea Dogs will also host Maine Children’s cancer Program Day on May 20.
The first of several season long promotional events to be unveiled is every Sunday kids will be able to run the bases after the game, weather and field conditions permitting.

The Sea Dogs will open the 2012 season on the road with a 4:05 PM doubleheader in Reading, Pennsylvania against the Reading Phillies. The home opener is slated for Thursday, April 12th at 6:00 PM against the Binghamton Mets at Hadlock Field. The 2012 season will be the Sea Dogs 19th year in Portland and tenth as a Boston Red Sox affiliate.
Individual tickets for the 2012 season will go on sale on Saturday, November 5th at 9:00 AM at the Hadlock Field Ticket Office.
