While working to divest themselves of their minor league affiliates, the New York Yankees apparently want to keep their brand solely for themselves. According to Jim Timlin, chairman of the Lackawanna County Stadium Authority board, the Yankees have “recommended” that the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees get a new nickname.
The Bronx Bombers have already unloaded the Single-A Staten Island Yankees (New York-Penn League), and the Single-A Tampa Yankees (Florida State League) were almost sold to an investor who wanted to move the team to Orlando.
