Vohs Steps Down as GM, Bosen Promoted

PRESS RELEASE – The Beloit Snappers announced today that Jeff Vohs will be stepping down as General Manager after eleven seasons with the organization. Assistant General Manager Matthew Bosen has been named the organization’s 10th GM in its 30-year history.

Jeff leaves the Snappers after seven years as General Manager. He got his start back in 2001 when he was hired as an intern. In 2002 he took the position of Director of Tickets & Merchandise and in 2003 he was Director of Game Day Operations before he was named Assistant GM in 2004.

In 2005, at the age of 24, Vohs was hired as the General Manager. He leaves the team after seven years as GM and eleven overall with the team. He led the staff to six straight years in which the organization posted positive financial years. Starting in November, he will be working at Gateway Community Bank in Beloit as a Commercial Lender.

“It has been an honor to work with the Snappers board of directors, staff, volunteers, the Minnesota Twins and the Milwaukee Brewers during my eleven years with the organization,” said Vohs. “I have made a lot of great friends at the ballpark, and wish nothing but the best for the organization and Matt Bosen as I move on to an exciting, new challenge in my career.”

Leading the search was the Snappers Board of Directors. Chairman of the board, Dennis Conerton has worked with the Snappers for many years and has seen eight of the nine General Manager’s that have previously led the staff.

“In all the year’s I’ve been involved with the Snappers [over 20 years], Jeff has been the best General Manager I’ve ever worked with, said Conerton. “We wish him the best of success and I’m positive we’ll see him at the ballpark in the future.”

The Snappers have named Matthew Bosen as the team’s newest General Manager. The Collinsville, IL native graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a degree in Sport Management in 2006.

“Based on his experience and knowledge of the organization, along with his sense of our business philosophy and his understanding of the market, I feel confident he’ll do very well” said Conerton.

Bosen began his baseball career in 2007 with the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A Affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers) as a Box Office Intern. In 2008, he started with the Snappers back when he was hired as Director of Ticket Operations & Merchandise. He held that title for three seasons before his promotion to Assistant General Manager in 2011.

“Over the last four years, I’ve learned a great deal about the proper way to run the Snappers from Jeff [Vohs], I appreciate all the knowledge that he’s passed on to me that he’s picked up throughout his 11 years,” said Bosen. “I’d like to thank the Board of Directors for giving me this chance to run the organization.”

The Snappers enter their 31st season of professional baseball in Beloit and have three returning full-time employees in 2012. Matt Glocke is entering his third season with the team, second as Director of Corporate Sales & Promotions. Head Groundskeeper Kevin Dvorak and Director of Media & Community Relations, Justin Waters both will be returning for their second seasons.

“I look forward to working with the great staff we have returning for the 2012 season and hope to continue the relationships we have built in the community over the past 30 years,” said Bosen.

The Snappers will open up their 2012 season when they face the Peoria Chiefs at Pohlman Field on Thursday, April 5.
