Fielders Appear Done in Zion

While the City of Zion (IL) and the indy pro Lake County Fielders (North American League) prepare for an ugly legal battle over unpaid rent and a permanent ballpark that was never built, City Attorney Scott Puma has made it clear that Zion wants the team gone. Read more here.

Even if lawsuits are filed, and the Fielders prevail in court, it’s unlikely that a judge would grant “specific performance” and require the city to build the park.  Monetary damages would likely be the chosen remedy, and the Fielders would be forced to find a new host community.  That said, if the lease contract contemplated a new permanent facility, we could make a pretty good equity argument for completion of the ballpark.
