Intimidators Break Attendance Record

PRESS RELEASE – The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, are excited to announce a new franchise attendance record, drawing 138,487 fans to Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium to 67 openings in 2011. The organization averaged 2,067 fans per game, also the highest average attendance for the franchise.

The Intimidators, which on Monday finished their 17th season in Kannapolis dating back to 1995 when the team moved to town as the Piedmont Phillies, drew a crowd of 3,487 to a doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 4, against the Greensboro Grasshoppers, helping surpass the previous franchise attendance record of 132,609 set during the 2009 season.

Regina Yoder of Huntersville, N.C., entered the gates of Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium during the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader as the 132,610th fan of the season. Yoder, who attended the game with her husband and two sons, got to throw out a ceremonial first pitch before the second game of the doubleheader and was given some additional prizes for breaking the record.

“This is a record that means a lot to the organization because it wouldn’t be possible without the fans,” said Randy Long, the Intimidators General Manager. “We are fortunate to have such great fans and to be able to provide affordable family entertainment to the region.”

The Intimidators would like to thank all the fans that made it to “The Cannon” this season. Between the lines, Kannapolis finished a half-game out of first place in the 2nd Half standings, one win shy of a playoff berth. The Intimidators will open the 2012 season at home on Thursday, April 5, 2012. For ticket information, please call the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visit http://www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
