San Jose Giants Set Franchise Attendance Record

PRESS RELEASE – Kim Nelson helped make history Friday night at Municipal Stadium when she entered the front gate as the 211,055th fan this season, bringing the total to 212,280.

The San Jose Giants broke the single-season attendance record of 211,054 set in 2009 with three games remaining in the regular season. For the third time in their history, the San Jose Giants reached the 200,000 fan plateau.

Kim was greeted with a celebration at the front gate and was presented with a gift basket including a San Jose Giants VIP Playoff Pass: valid for tickets, BBQ and parking during every game of the 2011 Playoffs, San Jose Giants gear and memorabilia including a Brandon Belt signed ball and an autographed 2011 uncut trading card sheet. In addition, several San Jose Giants partners, such as Winchester Mystery House, Rotten Robbie, Capitol Premier Car Wash, Raging Waters, Great America, Bowlmor Lanes, Los Lagos, Giorgio’s, In-and-Out and Palo Alto Medical Foundation, graciously donated items for the special gift bag.

“I was completely shocked when the confetti was thrown. I didn’t realize what had happened until people started congratulating me,” said Kim Nelson. “I decided on a whim to roundup all the kids and head to the ballpark tonight… Little did I know we would end up sitting in the owners seats and be part of such a historic occasion. The San Jose Giants definitely made fans for life.”

The entire San Jose Giants front office congratulated Kim Nelson and her family at the front gate. “We are very excited about the success we are having on the field in San Jose with our seventh-consecutive first half North Division crown and off the field we are extremely proud to have hosted more fans than ever this year at Municipal Stadium,” said Bill Schlough, San Jose Giants Interim President. “We have a few games remaining and hope fans take advantage of the opportunity to see a talented team full of top San Francisco Giants prospects play as we look to continue our record breaking success in the California League.”

The San Jose Giants continue their final homestand of the regular season Saturday, September 3 at 6:00 PM against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes at Municipal Stadium. The Giants are currently 89-47 this year with only three games remaining in the regular season. San Jose has already clinched the top overall record in the California League and will open the postseason on Saturday, September 10 at 6:00 PM with Game One of the best-of-five North Division Series at Municipal Stadium. San Jose is attempting to become the first team in California League history to win three-consecutive championships. For more information or tickets visit or call (408) 297-1435.
