PRESS RELEASE – Do you have a big appetite’ Get your fill with the Barnstormers! In homage to Lancaster County’s rich gastronomic history, the Barnstormers are issuing a challenge to all hungry fans in the first-ever “Whoopie Bowl.”
As part of the team’s Fan vs. Food night on Tuesday, August 9, the Barnstormers are holding an eating competition. The qualifying round will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Villa Nova (1310 Harrisburg Ave.), with the first 10 fans battling it out over cheese steaks. The top five finishers in the cheese steak qualifying round will be entered into Tuesday’s Whoopie Bowl finals, featuring whoopie pies from Dutch Haven.
At stake is the Whoopie Bowl title, prize packs from the Barnstormers and The Big I 105, as well as wing and beer tickets for the entire 2012 season (a $1,500 value)!
“This is answering a call from the State of Maine,” said Brian Radle, Director of Events and Entertainment. “To say they were the originator of the whoopie pie is crazy. If history can’t set the record straight, we in Lancaster County can at least set the bar with our passion for the whoopie pie! And the Whoopie Bowl will set the stage to prove that passion.”
In addition to the eating competition, the Barnstormers’ Fan vs. Food event will also offer an all-you-can-eat ticket. From 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., fans can enjoy unlimited hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries, popcorn and fountain soda for $15. Fans who already have seats for Tuesday’s game may add the all-you-can-eat ticket for $6.50.
Tickets and upgrades for Fan vs. Food can be purchased at the Faulkner Chevrolet Box Office, by calling 509-HITS or by visiting LancasterBarnstormers.com.
