PRESS RELEASE – On Wednesday, Futures Collegiate Baseball League Commissioner, Chris Hall, announced that the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs TM will be added as the league‟s fifth franchise located in Leominster, MA.
The organization will be operated by local businessman, John Morrison, President of privately-held polymer lens manufacturer, Fosta-Tek Optics. Fosta-Tek employs more than 150 people and has been an integral part of the greater Leominster business community for 20 years.
“My family and I are excited about bringing a high level of baseball and entertainment to the North Central area; Leominster and this region have been key to the success of Fosta-Tek,” Morrison said. “We plan to build a strong front office and baseball operations staff, drawing on the thriving Central Mass baseball community, field college players with regional connections, and be active in the area communities. The Futures League‟s inaugural season has been a tremendous success, and I am extremely excited the Dirt Dawgs are the first team added to the League for 2012.”
“John combines a passion for baseball, world class business experience and sense of community spirit which makes him a great asset to our league and the greater Leominster-Fitchburg area. We look forward to having him in the FCBL,” stated Chris Hall.
Morrison added, “While the Dirt Dawgs final field arrangements are in process, we have had constructive meetings with both the City of Leominster for the use of Doyle Field, and Fitchburg State on using Riccards Field, and expect to finalize the arrangements in the coming weeks. It would be great to have events at both, and build a ‘cross-border’ and regional fan base for the Dirt Dawgs.”
In throwing his support behind the project, Leominster Mayor Dean Mazzarella commented, “Leominster has long been regarded as a tremendous sports community so the addition of an FCBL franchise will only allow us to continue to provide our residents with new and exciting projects improving the quality of life for the community and region as a whole. And with the ownership of Fosta-Tek involved, I know this new venture will be a winner.”
North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce President, David McKeehan, echoed his support; “this is great news for sports fans and baseball families in the region. We put our full support behind this venture and appreciate John‟s efforts to bring this to fruition.”
