Canada Day celebrations will commence at the stadium beginning at 4pm with autograph and photo sessions, live music and other special festivities. First pitch is expected at 7:05, and fans are encouraged to come early and pre-buy tickets as a sell-out is anticipated. Fireworks are scheduled to begin following the game at 10pm.
The Dawgs hope for home support over the upcoming 6-game home stand to provide the boost required to get a jump in the Western Division standings. The Dawgs will battle Medicine Hat Mavericks at 7:05 PM Friday, July 1st. The Regina Red Sox come to town on Saturday (7:05) and Sunday (2:05) for their first and only meeting of the regular season. Weyburn will then make the swing out west on July 4th and 5th (7:05), with the home stand concluding on Wednesday with another matchup against the Mavericks.
The Dawgs have started the season off with a 12-6 record, which is good enough for second place in the Western Division. The Dawgs sit behind the Medicine Hat Mavericks (18-4) in the standings and hope to make up some ground during Canada week. Dawgs’ Ryan Rogers (Lindsey Wilson College, KY) leads the league in strikeouts with 35, and is the 4th ranked pitcher in the WMBL with a minimum of .8 innings pitched per team game.
Kendall Boone (West Texas A&M) and former JDawg Tyler Hollick crack the list of the top 15 batters in the league (requirement of 2.7 plate appearance per team game) with .354 and .343 batting averages respectively.
The Dawgs have kept it consistent with attendance numbers, even despite questionable June weather, averaging 2,238 for the month. The Canada Day home stand promises to be a sell out and the Dawgs general office encourages fans heading to Seaman Stadium to book tickets ahead of time by calling 403-262-3294.
