PRESS RELEASE – The Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox are nearing another attendance milestone. The Sea Dogs expect to welcome the seven millionth fan in franchise history sometime during the next homestand which runs from June 27th through July 3rd. The Sea Dogs are 20,572 fans away from the milestone.

The 7 millionth fan will receive a Sea Dogs prize package consisting of gift certificates to LL Bean, Buffalo Wild Wings, and an hour massage from SOMA Massage and Wellness in South Portland. Additionally, the seven millionth fan will receive Season Tickets to the Sea Dogs and throw out a ceremonial first-pitch prior to the game.

The 2011 season is the 18th season of play for the Sea Dogs. In the team’s first season in 1994, the Sea Dogs established a new Eastern League record in attendance as 375,197 fans made their way to Hadlock Field. Since that time the Sea Dogs have consistently drawn around 400,000 fans annually and rank among the attendance leaders in Double-A baseball.

Last season the Sea Dogs ranked third in attendance in the 12 team Eastern League, sixth out of the 30 Double-A teams, and 30th out of the 176 Minor League Baseball teams.

Additionally, the Sea Dogs rank sixth in all of New England sports in attendance, ranking only behind the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins, Pawtucket Red Sox, and New England Patriots.

“I believe one of the many reasons we have be able to maintain a strong fan base over the years is the fact that we provide good quality family entertainment at an affordable price,” stated Sea Dogs’ Executive Vice President and General Manager Geoff Iacuessa.

The Sea Dogs are Maine’s most affordable professional sports entertainment. Ticket prices range from $4.00 to $9.00. A family of four can attend a game with tickets, food, parking, and a program for under $60.00.

Besides enjoying a fun and affordable atmosphere, fans have been fortunate to see many of today’s Boston Red Sox stars develop including Daniel Bard, Josh Beckett, Clay Buchholz, Jacoby Ellsbury, Adrian Gonzalez, Jon Lester, Jonathan Papelbon, Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, and others. Additionally, fans have experienced the thrill of watching several Red Sox players rehab in Portland including Mike Cameron, Ellsbury, David Ortiz, and others.
