Bob ‘The Steamer’ Stanley to Headline Sharks Inaugural Home Opener

PRESS RELEASE – The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks, of the Future’s Collegiate Baseball League announce that Bob “The Steamer” Stanley will throw out the first pitch on the Sharks Opening Day June 10, 2011.  “The Steamer,” a member of the Red Sox Hall of Fame since 2000, is most known for his immeasurable contributions to the Boston Red Sox with whom he played all 13 seasons of his career.

“I look forward to the start of the FCBL and the opportunity to give more kids the chance to play quality baseball.  Growing up myself in the Northeast, it has been evident for too long that these kids get short-changed.  This league will provide the players with great competition and the fans with good baseball” – Bob Stanley.

Since his retirement, Bob has been a public figure endeared by the New England baseball community. Alongside Bob Stanley, esteemed members of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School Committee will also be involved in the Opening Day Ceremonies. Opening Day will be presented by the Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank.

Opening Day will also coincide with Martha’s Vineyard Little League and Babe Ruth Day. All players wearing their jerseys will receive free admission and a Sharks T-shirt to the Opening Day game which will be sure to be a blast for all the youngsters and their families throughout the Island.

The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks are a summer, wood bat, collegiate baseball team operated by Carminucci Sports Group who own and operate the Brockton Rox (Can-Am League). The Sharks play in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League Of New England.  The Sharks strive to provide its fans, sponsors, and partners with the very best in competitive baseball and affordable entertainment in a family-friendly atmosphere.
