PRESS RELEASE – The Lancaster JetHawks, Class A affiliate of the Houston Astros, have announced that Larry Thornhill has resigned his position as Vice President and General Manager of the franchise for personal reasons, effective immediately. Derek Sharp, Lancaster’s Assistant General Manager, who has been with the organization since 2008, has been named Interim General Manager for the remainder of the 2011 California League season.
In addition, Brad Seymour, who was the JetHawks General Manager from 2004 – 2008, has been named Senior Consultant for the organization. Seymour currently also serves as Vice President & General Manager of the Lake County (OH) Captains, a Cleveland Indians affiliate under the direction of the Peter A. Carfagna ownership group which also controls the Lancaster franchise. Seymour, along with team President Peter E. Carfagna, will have direct oversight of the day-to-day activities of the JetHawks.
“The Lancaster franchise wishes Larry well in his new personal endeavors and we are confident that the on-site leadership of Derek Sharp, who has been with the club for several years, will help the JetHawks continue to thrive throughout the 2011 season and beyond,” said JetHawks’ Chairman Peter A. Carfagna. “Additionally, with Brad Seymour and Peter E. Carfagna providing direct oversight of the organization, we expect the JetHawks will continue to show marked improvement in what Antelope Valley baseball fans have come to expect when visiting Clear Channel Stadium.”
Sharp welcomes the challenge of guiding the JetHawks’ front office staff and maintaining the franchise’s status as the top family entertainment option in the Antelope Valley.
“I welcome the opportunity that the Carfagna family has provided me with and wish Larry all the best,” Sharp said. “Larry has been an immense asset to the JetHawks organization since the club’s inception in 1996. Along with our great staff, we will continue to carry out the excitement the JetHawks bring to the Antelope Valley from this point forward and into the future.”
The JetHawks continue their four-game home stand with Rancho Cucamonga Thursday night at Clear Channel Stadium. Fans can take advantage of Cheers Buck Beers night with domestic draft beers available for just $1 each until the conclusion of the 6th inning. Game time is set for 7 p.m. The JetHawks will square off against Rancho Cucamonga again Friday night and Saturday night. A post-game fireworks extravaganza, featuring music from popular television shows, will immediately follow Friday’s game, which is slated for a 7 p.m. start. Saturday’s series finale features a Beach Bag Giveaway with the first 1,500 fans in attendance receiving a beach bag courtesy of AVPH, United We Mentor and IZIGG Mobile Media. The JetHawks will also honor the Antelope Valley healthcare industry with Salute to Scrubs night on Saturday. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
