PRESS RELEASE – The Kelowna Falcons and Astral Media are proud to announce their continued partnership heading into the 2011 season. For the past seven years AM 1150 (Oldies 1150) has been the flagship/official radio station of the Kelowna Falcons. Each season all Falcons home games and a number of road games have been featured over the Kelowna airwaves on Astral Media’s News, Talk, Sports station.
The voice of the Falcons, Ryan Watters has been behind the mic for all of these games, including a handful of playoff games and the 2009 West Coast League All-Star Game. “Its fantastic news,” says Watters. “The Falcons brand has grown by leaps and bounds over the last few years and a big reason is the commitment from Astral Media. They value their local programming and you can’t get more local than the Kelowna Falcons. It’s been a pleasure to work with the radio station over the course of the last seven years, I’m looking forward to number eight this season and hopefully a championship for our wonderful fans.”
Falcons’ fans here and abroad also benefit from this announcement as AM 1150 offers free web streaming at www.am1150.ca. Parents and family members will be able to listen in on how their son is developing in Kelowna. The Falcons and AM 1150 will carry 32 games this season beginning with the first three game road trip to Bellingham to open the 2011 season June 3. Any/all home playoff games will also be aired on the flagship station. So when attending Elks Stadium this summer, be sure and pack your mobile radio and tune in.
Watters’ broadcast is highlighted by a number of different features including “In the Falcons Nest,” which gives a chance for fans to get to know the players AND “Hometown Hitting,” a segment in which the player describes his hometown.
Though the radio station is not officially rated during the summer time, the same timeslot (6pm-mid-night) the Falcons games fall in has been rated #1 in the city.
