PRESS RELEASE – Seven nights of fireworks, $1.00 concession nights, a Randy Wells Bobblehead giveaway, GCS Federal Credit Union 50,000 penny pickup, a post-game concert from Remedy Drive and a show courtesy of The Phins highlights a packed 2011 promotional schedule released Monday by the Gateway Grizzlies.
We have huge variety of promotions in comparison to previous years,” Director of Promotions Katie Patton said. “Our goal is to have 48 different attractions for all 48 home games.”
The Grizzlies will open their 11th season at GCS Ballpark on May 20 at 7:05 PM against the Southern Illinois Miners with a GCS Federal Credit Union magnet schedule giveaway as well as a fireworks show after the game presented by Yellowbook.
In addition to Opening Day (May 20), fireworks will be shot off on June 3, July 2, July 3, July 4, August 5, and after the season finale, September 4.
“We got feedback from the fans and they said wanted more fireworks and a better fireworks display,” said Grizzlies General Manager Steve Gomric. “We are definitely going to give that to them.”
The Grizzlies will also be offering $1.00 concessions at the main concession stand on multiple occasions, including dollar dog nights on May 31 and August 2, dollar pretzels on June 14, dollar nachos on July 5, dollar bomb pops on July 26, and a dollar of all those mentioned above on August 16. In addition to those nights, on August 19, ALL concessions will be $2.00.
On June 2, Southwestern Illinois College Foundation will sponsor Randy Wells Bobblehead night, in which the first 1,000 fans will receive a bobblehead of the Chicago Cubs pitcher and nearby Belleville, Illinois native.
“We are especially excited about this night because Randy’s schedule allows him to be in attendance”, said Grizzlies General Manager Steve Gomric. “I’m sure there will be a lot of Cubs and Wells fans who will be in attendance that night.”
American TV will sponsor the Grizzlies game on June 18. Kids will get a chance to Play Catch with Dad prior to the game and a big screen TV giveaway will take place following the conclusion of the game.
Music will be in the air at GCS Ballparkduring the month of July, Greenville College and WIBI will present a post-game concert featuring Remedy Drive on July 15 as a part of Christian Family Day. Just one day later, The Phins, a Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band, will perform a show on July 16 to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Also on July 16th, the Grizzlies will have one of their three Jersey Off The Back nights. Fans will get a chance, through a silent auction in which the proceeds will go towards a local charity, to take home the jerseys that the players wear on that particular evening. The other Jersey Off The Back nights will take place on June 23 as well as on August 27 with a camouflage jersey.
“I’m a huge jersey guy and these look fantastic”, said Grizzlies jerseys aficionado Brent Pownall.
On August 5, in addition to a postgame fireworks show and Clinton County Community Night at the ballpark, GCS Federal Credit Union will present Jersey Backpacks for those who are 12-and-under.
The Grizzlies will honor those who serve our community on consecutive nights with a salute to Fire Fighters and Police officers on August 16 and August 17 respectively.
The team will also continue to offer free admission to those with a valid military I.D on all home games that take place on a Tuesday.
