Great Adventure Stadium: Catalyst for Minor League Baseball in Jersey?

On June 20, 1989, Six Flags in Jackson Township (NJ) announced that it planned to build a new 20,000 seat stadium for a Double-A or Triple-A team.  Great Adventure Stadium, as it was to be called, was never built, but at least one newspaper columnist believes that it was the catalyst for eight minor league teams eventually making New Jersey home, including the nearby Lakewood BlueClaws.  Read more and view rendering here.  Thanks to John Cerone for the link.
