Patriots Parade a Hit

The indy pro Atlantic League’s Somerset Patriots kicked off the 2011 season with the club’s annual parade through downtown Sommerville (NJ) on Wednesday.  Opening Night is Friday, May 6, at TD Bank Ballpark.  Read more and view photo here

PRESS RELEASE – The Five-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots, along with the Courier News and the Downtown Somerville Alliance, hosted a parade on Main Street in Somerville on Wednesday, April 27th.

The festivities began with an autograph session with all the Somerset Patriots players and coaches at Borough Hall. The Parade started at 6:00 pm down Main Street to the historic Somerville Courthouse.
 
At the courthouse steps, Mayor Brian Gallagher of Somerville , Freeholder Director Bob Zaborowski, Patriots President/ General Manager Patrick McVerry, and Chairman Steve Kalafer addressed the crowd in a special program to kick off the 2011 season. Somerset Patriots Manager Sparky Lyle introduced the 2011 Patriots team to the crowd during the program. Before and after the program the crowd enjoyed live music provided by School of Rock, located in Somerville. 
 
“This is the 13th year we have hosted the parade through downtown Somerville and it’s always a special day for us,” said McVerry. “We want to thank all the groups that participated in the parade and everyone that showed up to welcome the team.” 
 
Several organizations marched in the parade alongside the Somerset Patriots. Veteran Groups, US Armed Forces members, little league teams, fire companies, police and rescue squads, non-profit organizations, mascots, and partners of the team marched down Main Street.
 
Following the parade, fans were able to meet and greet players at restaurants throughout Down Town Somerville. Participating restaurants included Mannion’s Irish Pub & Restaurant, Alfonso’s Family Trattoria, Verve Restaurant, Scampi’s Seafood Restaurant, Central Pizzeria, Martino’s Cuban Restaurant, Gabriella’s Portuguese Cuisine,Valdebenito’s Argentinean & Italian Cuisine, and Yutaka Hibachi Steakhouse & Sushi Bar.

    Just one correction – opening day at Somerset is next Friday (May 6th), not tonight.
