PRESS RELEASE – The Grand Prairie AirHogs announced today that Craig Brasfield has been named the team’s Vice President and General Manager. Brasfield comes to Grand Prairie after two years as the VP/GM of the American Association champion Shreveport-Bossier Captains.
“I’m excited about the opportunity with the AirHogs,” said Brasfield. “This is such a great baseball area. I’m looking forward to getting involved in the community and realize how important the AirHogs are to the baseball fans in Grand Prairie. The AirHogs fans can expect a lot of exciting changes at QuikTrip Park in 2011.”
Brasfield spent the 2009 and 2010 seasons in Shreveport, helping the Captains win the American Association title last year. Before joining the Captains, Brasfield spent three years in the United League, where he served as the league president in 2007 and 2008 after spending the league’s inaugural season in 2006 as assistant to the president.
Before his run as the United League president, Brasfield was a successful general manager with two other teams in the southeastern United States. He was the VP/GM of the Jackson (Miss.) Senators in the Central League from 2002-05, and was the general manager of the Alexandria (La.) Aces of the Texas-Louisiana and then Central Leagues from 1994-2001.
Both of those teams had traditions of winning under Brasfield’s guidance. Alexandria won league titles in 1997 and 1998, with Brasfield being named the TX-LA Executive of the Year in 1996. The Aces were named the league’s Organization of the Year in 1996 and 2001. In Jackson, the Senators won the Central League title in 2003 and Organization of the Year in 2002.
The 1984 graduate from the University of Mississippi began his career in baseball with the Chattanooga Lookouts in 1985 before stints with the Medicine Hat Blue Jays, Durham Bulls and Tidewater Tides.
The AirHogs begin their fourth season at QuikTrip Park on May 12 when Grand Prairie meets the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Individual game tickets are on sale and can be purchased by calling 972-504-9383 or by visiting airhogsbaseball.com.
