PRESS RELEASE – The new era of Minor League Baseball in the Houston area begins at on Saturday, May 14 from 10 am to 4pm, when the Sugar Land Skeeters host the Inaugural Skeeters Fan Fest at Fluor Enterprises located at 1 Fluor Daniel Drive and State Highway 6 in Sugar Land. Admission and parking are free.
The Fan Fest will feature appearances by some of the greats of the game. Notable among them is Brooks Robinson, the Hall of Fame third basemen of the Baltimore Orioles and part-owner of the Skeeters. Some of the other players scheduled to attend are former Major League stars and local fan favorites Larry Dierker, Art Howe and Shane Reynolds, as well as Pete Incaviglia, who starred for six MLB teams from 1986-98. The players will be available for free autographs at various times throughout the event, and additional players will be added as the event gets closer.
A Fan Forum, featuring individuals who are instrumental in bringing professional baseball to Sugar Land, also is on the schedule. Exhibits for the Fan Fest include renderings of StarTex Power Field and the vision for the “Imperial” development around the stadium.
“We want to give people the experience of a Skeeters event at StarTex Power Field,” said the team’s President, Matt O’Brien. “We’ll be delivering family fun, and that means great baseball—plus a lot more.”
Billed as an “Indoor Baseball Carnival,” this first-ever Fan Fest will offer a wide range of games, skill challenges and all-age activities, as well as a Coaches’ Clinic presented by Baseball USA. Performers scheduled to appear include well-known Minor League Baseball performers, including “Dave the Horn Guy,” “Reggy” and The ZooperStars, featuring “Clammy Sosa,” “Harry Canary” and “Cow Ripken, Jr.” In addition, Toro, the Houston Texans’ mascot, and the Houston Dynamo’s Diesel are scheduled to appear.
The carnival atmosphere includes balloon artists, face painters, live music, live performers and radio remotes. “It’s all about creating a total entertainment environment with high-caliber Minor League Baseball at the center,” O’Brien added.
During the event, reservations will be accepted for 2012 Skeeters Season Tickets. Season tickets are $575 per seat for 70 home games, and individuals will receive a priority number for future seat selection.
Set to debut in April of 2012, the Skeeters will play in StarTex Power Field is currently under construction at the intersection of State Highway 6 and U.S. Highway 90A.
