Hawkeyes, Leathernecks to Play at Modern Woodmen Park

PRESS RELEASE – NCAA Division I baseball returns to Modern Woodmen Park this month when the Iowa Hawkeyes and Western Illinois Leathernecks take to the field on Wednesday, April 20 at 6:30pm.

“We’re excited to welcome these two area institutions back to the Quad Cities,” said River Bandits owner Dave Heller. “It’s great for area baseball fans to see two popular schools battle on a professional field and it’s an experience the participating players will never forget.”

The home of the River Bandits will serve as a neutral site for the Iowa City, Ia. and Macomb, Ill. based universities. The Big Ten – Summit League rivalry matchup is slated for 6:30 p.m. following the River Bandits game that afternoon against the Peoria Chiefs at 1:00pm.

Fans with tickets to the River Bandits game are welcome to stay after the game for the college contest. Those who wish to purchase tickets for the Iowa-Western Illinois game only can do so starting at just $5. Tickets can be purchased through the River Bandits box office by calling (563) 3-BANDIT or online at RiverBandits.com.

“We have developed a strong relationship with both of these schools over the last few years,” said River Bandits general manager Kirk Goodman. “It’s great to have both of them back to put on a great show for college baseball fans in this area.”

The two teams last played each other in 2009 at Modern Woodmen Park. The Hawkeyes won the contest 20-7. Both teams were scheduled to face each other last season, but a tragedy on the Leathernecks team resulted in some scheduling conflicts. Iowa made the trip and was opposed by St. Ambrose University, a local NAIA school that plays its home games at Modern Woodmen Park.
