As we reported yesterday, the summer collegiate West Coast League’s Bellingham Bells unveiled a new logo, colors, uniforms and hamster mascot at an event on Tuesday. The design work was handled by sports industry branding king Dan Simon from Studio Simon. Below is the official press release and photos of the unveiling from the team.
PRESS RELEASE – The city of Bellingham has a long and rich history of baseball that extends more than 70 years. On Tuesday afternoon, the Bellingham Bells added a page to the history books when they unveiled their new logo, new uniforms and new mascot in front of a crowd of local kids, residents and city officials at the Bellingham Boys & Girls Club.
The event attendees heard from members of the Bells’ ownership, management and coaching staff. Following presentations by the team’s owner (Eddie Poplawski), General Manager (Blake Buswell) and Assistant Head Coach (Jim Clem), renderings were unveiled for all of the components of the team’s new brand identity. Loud cheers were offered up by the crowd for each of the new items, with the most enthusiastic applause coming after the new mascot, a fun-loving hamster, was introduced. The team has asked fans to help them choose a name for their new Bellinghamster by submitting a vote in a “Name the Mascot” contest.
“We are very excited about our team’s new look and we greatly appreciate all of the positive feedback that we have received from members of the community,” said Bells general manager Blake Buswell. “Kids and adults alike expressed a lot of support and excitement for how the team will look on the field this coming summer.”
The Bells new look was developed in conjunction with a nationally renowned graphic designer, Dan Simon of Studio Simon. Studio Simon has been responsible for creating over 100 sports team logos for professional, collegiate and amateur teams throughout the country.
“We invested a lot of time, energy and effort in creating our team’s new identity,” said Bells’ team owner Eddie Poplawski. “We were searching for a look and feel that bridged the team’s, and the region’s, rich baseball traditions with the energy and excitement we hope to instill in the franchise for years to come.”
The Bells new look will be extended into every part of the operation, including the team’s website (www.bellinghambells.com) which will be re-launched within the coming week.
The Bells open their season on June 3rd at Joe Martin Field against the Kelowna Falcons. For ticket information contact the Bellingham Bells offices at (360) 527-1030, or via e-mail at bells@bellinghambells.com.
