PRESS RELEASE – The Sioux City Explorers announced today that veteran play-by-play broadcaster, Dave Nitz will return as the “Voice of the X’s” and for the 19th consecutive season all (100) Sioux City Explorers home and away games will be heard on 1360 KSCJ and via the X’s website (www.xsbaseball.com).
In his 30 years of minor league baseball broadcasting, Nitz has been at the Triple-A level in the Rangers organization at Oklahoma City, the Giants Double-A team in Shreveport, and the Orioles organization at Bluefield, WV in the Appalachian League along with independent league stops in Baton Rouge (LA) and Shreveport, LA.
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to return to Sioux City for a third season to work with the staff of the Explorers and KSCJ,” said Nitz. “I am looking forward to another great summer of X’s baseball and seeing all of our great fans, while also having an opportunity to work with our new fielder manager, Stan Cliburn.”
Along with minor league baseball, Dave has just completed his 36th year as the radio voice of Louisiana Tech football, basketball and baseball. In December of 2009, he broadcast his 2000th Louisiana Tech game. Also in 2009, Nitz was named the Louisiana Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.
“The Sioux City Explorers have been a big part of our summer programming at KSCJ and we are excited to start our 19th season covering X’s baseball,” said KSCJ General Manager Dennis Bullock. ”We are excited to be a part of Stan Cliburn’s first season as field manager and Dave Nitz is a consummate professional and we are looking forward to having him back on the air this season.”
Dave is a native of West Virginia and a graduate of Louisiana Tech University. He and his wife Marlene have three children and six grandchildren and make their home in Haughton, Louisiana.
