PRESS RELEASE – What do a man of Steel, a Penguin, a nerd, a chainsaw, an inflatable giraffe and mascot movie parodies all have in common? They’ll all be part of the Entertainer and Special Guest Appearances schedule this season in Curve, PA. The 13th season of Altoona Curve baseball will see a player from the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins visit Blair County Ballpark along with national entertainment acts and a feature night put on by the Curve’s mascot crew.
Appearances from Pittsburgh’s pro sports starts will bookend the 2011 season as a member of the 2010 AFC Champion Pittsburgh Steelers will visit BCB as part of the Curve’s Opening Weekend series on Friday, April 15 thanks to Peoples Natural Gas and WTAJ-TV. On August 22, a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins will skate into Altoona thanks to Altoona Trackers’ Hockey booster John McQuade and WTAJ-TV. In 2010, Steelers’ defensive lineman Ziggy Hood and Penguins’ winger Pascal Dupuis came to BCB. Who will it be in 2011? Keep a constant eye on AltoonaCurve.com for the latest information.
“We’re working on a couple of popular sports stars to finalize our list of celebrities and entertainers for the coming season,” said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. “LaMarr Woodley and Ziggy Hood have been a hit with fans each of the last two seasons and Pascal Dupuis was really well-received as the first active Penguins’ player to appear at the ballpark. As always, it’s important to us that the athlete’s appearances are complete with autograph sessions for our fans and this year will be no different.”
Keeping with the Pittsburgh theme, the Pirate Parrot will be making his first appearance at Blair County Ballpark since 2009 on May 15 vs. Erie. The Parrot will bring his antics and wackiness to join Steamer & Co. during the mid-afternoon contest with the SeaWolves.
After the Parrot, the daring, chainsaw-juggling Mad Chad returns to BCB on June 4 vs. Portland. Chad, who began his juggling career at age 13 and has juggled everything from working video cameras to bowling balls that he catches with his head, will bring his skateboard and chainsaw juggling act to Altoona for the third-straight se.ason and is sure to be a cut above the rest.
Altoona and the world alike all love The Zooperstars and they’ll be back at Blair County Ballpark on July 9, thanks to WTAJ-TV, when the Bowie Baysox stroll into town. Who will show up at BCB? Will it be Dick Flytale? Jeff Gordog? Peyton Manatee? Find out when the lovable, outrageous, zany, unpredictable, hysterical, incredible animal superstars visit in early July.
August 3 vs. Binghamton will be a night that fans of the Altoona Curve will surely not want to miss as Steamer, Al Tuna, Tenacious C and Diesel Dawg all take center stage to try and conquer Mascot Movie Night at BCB. The quartet of Curve mascots will perform parodied skits throughout the evening that parody films such as: “Mascot: Impossible”, “The Sound of Mascots”, “Mascots Who Stare at Goats”, “The Good, The Bad and the Mascots”, and “A Few Good Mascots”. It will be a night of Oscar-worthy performances fans surely won’t want to miss.
The Hippest Nerd In Da’ Biz Myron Noodleman will bring his glasses and bowtie to BCB on Saturday, August 13 as the Curve take on Reading. Noodleman, who is known for his humorous skits as well as his ability to interact with the crowd, will come armed with his array of nerdy classics that make Steve Urkel look cool.
