Regency Furniture Stadium to Host Willie Nelson Country Throwdown

PRESS RELEASE – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Professional Baseball Club has announced the Calvert Marine Museum as the club’s newest partner. As part of the partnership, the Blue Crabs and the museum will offer cross promotional marketing strategies designed to comingle the two customer bases and the two will collaborate by promoting and hosting concerts at Regency Furniture Stadium.

The new partners have announced the first major venture between the museum and the team. On June 18, 2011, Regency Furniture Stadium will host Willie Nelson’s Country Throwdown Tour. The country music festival will begin at 3pm and feature 13 artists performing on 3 stages throughout the afternoon and evening.

With a six-decade career and 200 plus albums, headliner Willie Nelson is the creative genius behind the historic recordings of “Crazy,” “Red Headed Stranger,” and “Stardust.” He has earned every conceivable award as a musician and amassed reputable credentials as an author, actor, and activist. This past April, Willie Nelson’s Country Music, produced by Grammy and Oscar winning T Bone Burnett, was released on Rounder Records and recently received a GRAMMY Nomination for Best Americana Album.

In addition to the country music festival, the two organizations will be linked in many other ways during the 2011 season and beyond. As part of the partnership, Calvert Marine Museum will have the opportunity to set up marketing tables at Blue Crabs games throughout the 2011 season, as well as promoting upcoming events via exit flyers, Blue Crabs newsletters and E-Blasts. The Blue Crabs in turn will have a visible presence at museum functions and events throughout the summer. Over 300,000 fans combined visited Regency Furniture Stadium and Calvert Marine Museum in 2010, and this partnership will highlight the services and attractions that each venue has to offer.

“With our experience promoting concerts and recognizing that each of our organizations fundamentally appeal to families of the Southern Maryland region, the goal is to work together to expose both communities to the very valuable services that we each offer. This will also increase our sponsors’ exposure in both areas and provide more bang for their buck!” said Director of the Calvert Marine Museum, Doug Alves.

Founded in 1970, the Calvert Marine Museum was designed and built by volunteers and established on Solomon’s Island, Maryland. The museum is a public, non-profit, educational, regionally oriented museum dedicated to the collection, preservation, research, and interpretation of the culture and natural history of Southern Maryland. They are dedicated to the presentation of three themes: regional paleontology, estuarine life of the tidal Patuxent River and adjacent Chesapeake Bay, and maritime history of these waters. The museum is part of Calvert County Government.

“We proudly welcome Calvert Marine Museum into the ‘Crustacean Nation’ Family,” said Blue Crabs newly appointed General Manager Keith Lupton. “We look forward to Willie’s performance and a long, mutually-rewarding partnership between Calvert Marine Museum and the Blue Crabs.”
