Kernels Announce Party at the Park: Theme Nights

PRESS RELEASE – It’s a Party at the Park in 2011 as the Cedar Rapids Kernels announce their Popular Theme Night schedule for the season.

The party starts on Monday, April 11th on Opening Night as the first 1,000 fans through the gates receive a free 10th Season Stadium T-Shirt from the Best Western Longbranch Hotel. 2011 magnet schedules, courtesy of Mercy Care Community Physicians will be passed out during Opening Week. On Friday, April 22nd enjoy an all-you-can-eat fish fry on the Miller Mezzanine and on Saturday, April 23rd, it’s Kids Day with a free Easter Egg hunt before the game.

The party continues in May with Beer and Wings sampling party on the Randy Kuehl Honfidence Pavilion on Wednesday, May 4th. And the Kernels celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Thursday, May 5th with our Thirsty Thursday $1.50 draft beer specials. It’s Star Wars Night on Friday, May 27th, as fans should come dressed in their best Star Wars costume and join players from the 501st Central Garrison, as the Kernels will wear special jerseys that will be sold via a silent auction during the game with the proceeds to benefit JDRF. On Saturday, May 28th, Orchestra Iowa performs the music of Blood, Sweat & Tears; Earth, Wind & Fire; and Chicago starting at 4 pm.

Something new for music lovers – Dueling Pianos perform at the stadium during the game on Thursday, June 9 and it’s a busy day on Sunday, June 12 with Bark in the Park, as the first 500 fans receive a free Snoopy doll from the LA Angels, and the Kernels will wear special Cyclone jerseys as part of Iowa State Day. Not to be outdone, it’s Hawkeye Night on Friday, June 17, as the Kernels will wear special Iowa Hawkeye jerseys. Both Iowa and Iowa State jerseys will be sold via a silent auction during their respective games.

Armed Forces Night, presented by Midwest Curb Grinding, returns on Saturday, July 2nd, with the Kernels wearing special jerseys that will be sold via a silent auction during the game. On Monday, July 4th, the Kernels take on Burlington at 5:05 pm and then fans can stay at the stadium following the game for entertainment until the Kernels shoot off their own special fireworks show around 9:30 pm. A new theme night this year is Harry Potter Night on Saturday, July 9th. The first 1,000 fans receive a free Harry Potter Magic Wand and fans can meet characters Harry Potter, Hermoine Granger, and Rubeus Hagrid, portrayed by the talented impersonators of Mischief Managed. Break out the bell-bottoms and roller skates as Perfect Game Field is transformed into the city’s largest disco on 70’s Night on Friday, July 15th.

Jimmy Buffett Night returns on Saturday, August 20th as the Kernels take on Peoria at 5:05 pm. The Cedar Island Band will perform after the game until the Kernels shoot off a spectacular fireworks show around 9:30 pm. And speaking of fireworks, the Kernels have 13 fireworks shows scheduled this season, starting Saturday, May 7th.
