Tiger Woods Invited to Throw Out the ‘First Spit”

PRESS RELEASE – The Waterloo Bucks, members of the Northwoods League, have invited Tiger Woods to spit on the Riverfront Stadium field at their June 4 home opener. Woods, who was recently fined and criticized for spitting on the green during the final round of the Dubai Desert Classic, has not only been invited to throw out the “First Spit,” but also the ceremonial First Pitch.

“Speaking not only for the Waterloo Bucks, but the entire baseball community, we feel that spitting on the field of play is not only tolerable, but almost mandatory,” said Bucks General Manager Dan Corbin. “With that in mind, we feel that there is no better way and no better place for him to celebrate our national pastime by spitting on the field here at renovated Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo before our home opener on June 4. While the golf community may frown upon this type of activity, we here at the Bucks honor your right to spit, on or off the field of play. Baseball fans everywhere have heard of a ‘Web Gem’; we view this as Tiger’s chance for his own ‘Web Phlegm.’”

In conjunction with the team’s invite to Woods, the Bucks have announced a special ticket package named the Saturday Saliva Special. For $35 (Tiger’s age), a fan will receive a box seat ticket to every Bucks Saturday regular season home game in 2011, including the June 4 home opener. Fans who order by February 28 will also receive a complimentary set of Woods – two game-used broken bats (while supplies last) and will be allowed to spit on the Riverfront Stadium field after the Bucks home opener. Finally, any fan ordering 14 (number of Tiger’s major titles) or more Saturday Saliva Specials will win a free round of golf with Bucks GM Dan Corbin.

The Bucks will open the 2011 season on the road at Battle Creek on June 1. Waterloo’s home opener is scheduled for Saturday, June 4 at 6:35 pm versus the Eau Claire Express. Season tickets and single-game tickets are currently on sale. Fans are encouraged to stay in touch with the Bucks in the off-season by utilizing their website at http://www.waterloobucks.com.
