Goldpanners’ Financial Dire Straits Force Dramatic Changes

The Alaska Baseball League’s Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks will not play in the ABL this season.  Because of financial troubles, the ‘Panners are cutting back operations by two-thirds and playing just three weeks of games from June 10 through July 1 this season.  This will not effect the annual Midnight Sun Game on June 21 at Growden Memorial ParkRead more here.

    In our opinion, the entire ABL needs a major overhaul. The brand has incredible value to expoit, but if this historic circuit founded in 1969 does not evolve in the face of stiff competition from professionally-run summer collegiate leagues like the Northwoods and West Coast in the the lower 48 states, it will eventually become irrelevant. Yes, more on this later.
