PRESS RELEASE – There will be no “Cinderella Story” comments because every newspaper in the country has already made the joke, but St. Paul Saints owner/team psychologist continues to pile up golfing titles like it’s his job winning the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
At one of the most picturesque golf courses in the world Murray and his playing partner, D.A. Points, defeated the field by two strokes in the pro-am part of the competition, but that wasn’t the only winning the group did over the weekend. Points recorded his first ever tour victory and found his inner Murray that helped him in the most stressful moment.
Points, facing a six-foot par putt on the 16th hole told his caddie he didn’t feel very good about the putt. As Murray lined up his long putt Points yelled out, “The crowd would be really happy if you could make that.”
The crowd roared with laughter and that helped ease Points.
“It totally took me out of the moment for just enough to kind of help bring me back to life a little bit,” Points said.
With the trophy already locked up for the duo, Murray announced his “big putt” on the 18th hole and as he struck his putt he yelled, “It’s in the hole!!!”
It didn’t quite make it, but Murray ran over to it while the ball was still moving and tapped it in and raised his arms in triumph.
“I’m thinking of turning pro,” Murray said. “I probably won’t. It’s really nice to play with a gentleman. He’s a good person. He’s from Illinois. He’s Lincoln-esque in stature and unfailingly polite.”
