PRESS RELEASE – The Nashua Collegiate Baseball Team officially has a name: Nashua Silver Knights. Over the past month fans from the community were encouraged to submit team names and those names were dwindled down to six final names where in overwhelming fashion the 4th graders picked the team name the Knights.
The final vote tallies were as follows: Knights: (261), Fighting Pheasants (85), Milldogs (77), Fighting Fireflies (63), Newts (55), and Narwhals (22).
“The 4th Graders have spoken,” said Nashua Collegiate Baseball Vice President Tim Bawmann. “We are very excited about the team name Silver Knights and all the fun promotional ideas we can do with the name.”
The Silver Knights will honor the 4th Graders this summer with two complimentary tickets to a game and parade around the field. Multiple games will be worked out to appease all the 4th Graders that voted.
The name “Knights” was submitted by two people: James Desjardins and Jeff Steiner. Each have won a pair of tickets to the Silver Knights Opening Game at Holman Stadium on Saturday, June 11 and the opportunity to throw out a ceremonial pitch.
“It was very important to us that the community picked the team name,” said Bawmann.
The team decided to include “Silver” in front of Knights to avoid any confusion with the already existing AAU Baseball Team New Hampshire Knights.
