The new Western Major Baseball League franchise in Cranbrook (BC) has been named the “Cranbrook Eds.” The team’s name, logo and uniforms were unveiled at an event on Wednesday. The team’s new website can be found at www.cranbrookeds.com. The Eds will begin play in 2013, contingent upon construction of a new WMBL-ready ballpark.
According to the Eds’ Facebook page, ”[i]n 1926, a small young elephant that was part of the Sells Floto traveling Circus became a world wide sensation. While the Circus was visiting Cranbrook, a group of elephants escaped into the rugged wilderness.
“Many elephants were caught within days, yet the search for one young elephant named ‘Ed’ went on for weeks. Once …finally caught, the Circus felt it only natural to rename this young elephant ‘Cranbrook Ed’.” Read more here. View photo of the new uniforms here.
We actually love the name and logo. The name is unique and has a historical connection to the area, and the logo combines fun with a great old-time baseball feel. Nice job, Eds!
