PRESS RELEASE – With the Futures Collegiate Baseball League schedule set to be released within the next 4 to 6 weeks, the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks have already scheduled their first exhibition game of the inaugural 2011 campaign. The Sharks will be playing the Utica Brewers from upstate New York. Butch Russo, the president and general manager of the Brewers, stated that “we’re very excited to establish a relationship with the Sharks baseball program. This game will be a great experience for both organizations and will be an added benefit to our 2011 season. We believe that this will be the start of a long-term relationship with the Sharks as we are both working on a home-and-home series in 2012.”
The Sharks, a collegiate baseball team, will host the Utica Brewers of the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22 at the Vineyard Baseball Park, which is located at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. The gates will be open at 3:00 PM for those interested in seeing pre-game warm-ups.
The NYCBL is one of the oldest and most respected summer collegiate leagues in the country, having been in existence for over thirty seasons and featuring 12 clubs in upstate New York.
The Brewers recently joined the league from the Eastern Collegiate Baseball League (ECBL), where they won the previous two ECBL championships. The club plays at Murnane Field, a 3,500-seat facility which hosted clubs in the professional New York-Penn League until 2002.
